About FISHAROO

FISHAROO is an interactive mapping tool that helps Washington State anglers discover fishing locations stocked by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW). Our mission is to make fishing data accessible and easy to use for everyone, from beginners to experienced anglers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does the data come from? β–Ό

Data Source: Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife (WDFW)

Storage: Database with ~50,000 fish stocking records

Coverage: 1,631 mapped fishing locations across Washington State

The data is synced from the official WDFW public API and stored in our database for fast, reliable access. Records include fish stocking events, species, quantities, sizes, and dates from 2020 to present (including future planned stockings).

How often is the data updated? β–Ό

The WDFW stocking data is stored in our database and synced periodically from the official WDFW public dataset. Our database provides instant query results without needing to fetch data on every request.

The database is updated regularly to ensure you have access to the latest stocking information, including upcoming planned stockings. Click "Reload Data" to refresh your view with any new filters or time periods.

What do the different colored markers mean? β–Ό

The popup information for each location shows stocking events with color-coded backgrounds based on fish size:

  • Pink: Small fry (less than 0.10 lbs)
  • Orange: Medium fish (0.10 - 1.0 lbs)
  • Green: Large fish (over 1.0 lbs)
  • Star (⭐): Exceptional stockings with fish 2+ lbs
Can I filter by specific species or locations? β–Ό

Yes! Use the filters in the left sidebar to narrow down results by:

  • Fish species (Rainbow Trout, Steelhead, etc.)
  • County
  • Minimum fish size
  • Time period (recent stockings or specific year/month)
  • Location search
Why are some locations not showing on the map? β–Ό

We have mapped 1,631 fishing locations across Washington State. If a location doesn't appear, it may be because:

  • The location name in WDFW data doesn't match our coordinate database
  • It's a new location that hasn't been added to our mapping system yet
  • Your current filters are excluding it

Check the status message at the bottom of the sidebar to see how many unmapped locations exist in your current data set.

How can I report errors or suggest improvements? β–Ό

We welcome your feedback! If you notice any errors in the map data, missing locations, or have suggestions for improvements, please use the feedback form below to send us an email.
